Who We Are

Pema Chodron says that when we start a journey towards healing "we often think that somehow we’re going to improve, which is a subtle aggression against who we really are." I work to come alongside you as you start your journey to understanding yourself as you are now. Typically, any change that needs to happen is a step out of your comfort zone. That step can be scary, but it is essential to growth. I combine mindfulness with traditional therapy approaches from a trauma informed lens to help connect you to your inner knowing. It's time to fully step into your own power and grab what you want and deserve out of life.

Edward Schwartz
LICENSED MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR
I take a person-centered approach to therapy-which means you take the lead in therapy and “steer the ship.” My role is to support and help you along the therapeutic process. I use CBT, DBT, and EMDR to help you with the process of healing and growth.
In my 38 years of mental health experience, I have helped people work through and process their difficulties and trauma. It has been personally rewarding for me to see how I have “walked with” individuals through their difficult and challenging times and find the resolution, growth and happiness they need.
I would be honored to “walk with you” on that journey and help you achieve the happiness you deserve.

On a personal note, I enjoy doing some artwork, hiking, watching movies and listening to music.

Isabelle Sarno
Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate
I obtained my BA in Psychology from American Military University and my MS in Professional Counseling with an emphasis in Trauma from Grand Canyon University. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHC-A) through the board of Washington as of 2022.
I specialize in clients who experience depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, domestic violence, grief, and trauma.
I believe that therapy is a team effort between the counselor and clients. For the greatest success, the client needs to be motivated to create change and the counselor needs to bring an empathetic approach and provide the right tools. I will be using a variety of different therapy models for my clients such as Person-Centered Therapy, and Cognitive-Behavior Therapy to achieve the best results.
In my free time, I value spending time with my husband and four children. Due to our love of nature, my family spends a lot of time outside exploring and engaging in backyard activities. I have recently picked up an interest for plant cultivation and am proudly nurturing the family’s houseplant Al Pacino who is alive and thriving.

I obtained my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Gonzaga University (Spokane, WA) in 2024 and also have a MSc in Exercise Science specialized in Sport Psychology (2020) from Ithaca College (Ithaca, NY). I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) through the board of Washington as of 2024.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship between the client and counselor is one that is genuine, authentic, and a safe space for change. “Empathy fuels connection” (Brene Brown) and therefore as a counselor I strive to make my clients feel seen, heard, and valued. Throughout each session I may lean into insight building, self-compassion, and highlighting incongruencies that may be hindering growth towards your personal goals. Additionally, I approach each client from a holistic lens and prioritize curiosity and cultural humility.

I have worked with a range of clients from varying backgrounds who experience depression, anxiety, self-concept and identity concerns, relational difficulties, and grief. I also specialize in student-athletes and individuals with sport-related struggles such as performance anxiety, life/sport transitions, injury, and eating/body image concerns. Additionally, I have an interest in in working with couples.

I do not believe there is a “one-size-fits-all” in counseling and my approach is integrative utilizing Person-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy.
On a personal note, I enjoy lake days, live music or sporting events, fitness classes, romance novels, peanut butter chocolate ice cream, and being surrounded by loved ones. I also have a high energy Australian Cattle Dog named Indy that I love to take on walks!

Lara Kjeldsen
Licensed Mental Health Counselor
I work with people of all ages using Adlerian play therapy. My Registered Play Therapist credential is pending, and I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). My passion areas are grief, trauma, and multi-racial identity issues, and I have experience working with anxiety, depression, parenting, and family-of-origin difficulties.

I became a therapist after volunteering as a children’s grief group facilitator for 15 years, where I realized that walking together with hurting people was my ikigai – the thing I can contribute to the world that also brings me joy and fulfilment. My clients have said they get a calm but playful vibe from me, and that they feel accepted and appreciated, no matter what.

I am a multi-racial Japanese-European American with roots in Hawai’i, and was born and raised in Spokane. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Religion from Hamline University in St. Paul, MN, in 1999. (I do not operate from a religious basis in therapy, but support all beliefs and religions my clients hold and/or want to incorporate in their therapeutic work!) In 2003, I earned a Master's degree in Chemistry from the Colorado School of Mines before discovering the joys of ski bumming and skydiving. I earned my Master's in Counselor Education in 2021 from the University of Central Florida.

A quote by Alfred Adler guides my life choices and my work with clients: “Follow your heart but take your brain with you.”
